Hello I hope you all had a wonderful and safe Halloween!!!! We had an amazing night! This was the first Halloween that my little guy really got into it!!!! He didn't have a problem with going up to the houses and opening that little bag! Couldn't tell then "trick or treat", but he did tell then "Tink You".....LOL.... My daughters Brooklyn and Brianna were Vampires and witches!!!! Brooklyn the Vampire kept tring to take a bite of Brianna the witch!!!! How funny is that!!!! Hello to all of my blogging friends. It seems like such a long time! I wouldn't be posting if it were not for a wonderful person in my life! Someone that inspires me and always amazes me!!!! Someone that I would do just about anything for. You know who you are and thank you!!!! You know how they say things in life happen for a reason? Well I totally believe that! You get things taken away and you get given things back. Life can be a roller coaster of emotions!!!! But, I believe deeply that the best things in life are worth fighting for!!!! So to all my blogging friends if there is someone special in your life, tell them you love them,or show them you love them!!!! Family and good friends are hard to come by and when you get them hold tight and don't let go!!!! Believe in Destiny no matter if you get good or bad. You make life what you put into it.
I have been crafting several Primitive decorations and redoing my house around to suit my 4th of July decorations. I came up with a cute idea for my Hutch I took a Military flag a real nice one and stretched it over the hutch and wound white Christmas lights through it. It looks amazing I LOVE IT!!!! Well I will be doing alot more posting as long as I can round up my partner in crime!!!! lol

My partner was Mellissa Hodnett over at http://libbieshome.blogspot.com She spoiled me and sent me the most wonderful goodies! thank you mellissa!!!! She sent me the jar and on it had it customed to say Olde Spoon river Homestead!!!! I loved everything so much!!!! Making the best out of all this snow

Hello to all my blogging pals. Boy o' Boy we sure got pelted with a ton of snow! Even Thunder Snow! We live in IL and right in the heart of this storm we were!!!! I've never seen anything like it!!!! So, my children and I were making the best out of this mess! We made our Snow Ice cream but, I didn't go with the recipe I posted the other day I went with one of PAULA DEANS recipes for Snow Ice cream and the kids LOVED IT!!!! My oldest girl wanted more!!!! Here are some pics of the snow and our Snow Ice cream!!!!

I know we have 18inches and up coming our way so if snowed in these are a few supplies that you should have on hand!!!!Canned and other non-perishable food we can eat without heating or that we can easily heat in the wood stove. Suggestions include cereal, granola bars, canned fruit, canned soup and beans, powered milk, nuts, etc. Throw in some chocolate if you want to be a hero. And if you have a baby who’s on formula, don’t forget to store some extra of that, or no one will be happy.
Manual can opener. Because your electric one isn’t going to do you much good when the power is out and using a knife can be a bit dangerous, I've found.
Matches and dry wood and kindling. Use only if you have a wood stove or fireplace, please.
Flashlights and extra batteries, and candles. Necessary only if you want to see your family members at night or if you want to avoid walking into furniture and walls.
Gallons of drinkable water.
Toilet tissue. No explanation needed, I hope.
Old-school NON-CORDLESS phone. This will allow you to have phone capabilities even if the power goes out and your cell phone doesn’t work. Of course, if phone lines go down, too, you're out of luck.
Battery-operated radio. Again, necessary only if you want to know what's going on in the world. Sometimes, I don't want to.
Several-days supply of important medications. For us, this includes children’s ibuprofen and Benadryl, because I do NOT want to experience H1N1 or an allergic reaction without pharmaceuticals.
Important phone numbers, such as who to call to report a power outage and your supervisor’s cell phone number. Maybe add your mother to the list if she worries like mine.
Plenty of extra blankets and quilts. Unless you prefer shivering. Your call.
Instant coffee. I once went four days without caffeine because of a blizzard. It wasn’t pretty.

Board games to keep family members from going crazy from boredom without Wii.

More Snow On The Way For us, And a Snow recipe!!!!

Good evening to you all. I have been watching the weather and ugggggg!!!!! More Snow on the way.................... I don't know about you but I'm OVER SNOW!!!! I like snow on Christmas time and then it can just go away!!!! I'M COLD!!!! I guess over the next three days where we live is supposed to get 10 inches of snow????? MAN, I don't think I'm ready, AGAIN!!!! So, we are going to make the best out of the situation and my kids and I and there grandma are planning on making SNOW ICE CREAM..... MADE WITH FRESH FALLEN SNOW AND SOME SIMPLE INGREDIENTS....
THE RECIPE IS AS FOLLOWS IF YOU FELL LIKE TRYING IT WITH YOUR KIDS OR GRAND KIDS!!!!Ingredients

1 gallon snow

1 cup white sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

2 cups milk

Directions

1.When it starts to snow, place a large, clean bowl outside to collect the flakes. When full, stir in sugar and vanilla to taste, then stir in just enough milk for the desired consistency. Serve at once.

Some valentines creations

I hope you're all having a relaxing Sat. Boy its cold here!!!! I have been doing some going through some of my old decorations and crafts I've made over the years and thought I would post some of them for your enjoyment! Maybe to inspire........

I took a old Annie doll and added some valentine elements out of boredom. I made a rusty wing angel, I got this Valentine heart from goodwill I do believe.

The Hearts that are wrapped in tulle are store bought cookies dipped in smell good wax to preserve them!!!! I put them under my Valentine tree every year so that it looks like little Valentine packages under there!!!! I'm fixing to get my butt in gear and make a trip outta town to a hobby lobby, because I am "OUT" of craft supplies I can't really create anything new and it STINKS!!!! Hope you all have a nice weekend!!!!

Wow, I don't have a clue how I'm gonna decorate for valentines day? Let alone how to Prim Decorate for Valentines Day. I did do my Valentines Day Tree!!!! I used dried oranges, valentine prim tags, red striped torn fabric strips, and little muslin hearts a made. As for my tree I have not thought of much. Anyone have any ideas? Hello to all of you! I've got all of my Harvest decorating done and now I'm just waiting for those produce stands to get those pumpkins in!!!! They told my best friend Shannon when she went that they will be getting them in in the next week or two!!!! Well I need some now lol!!!! I think for Halloween this year I am going with a theme! Silicone dipped light bulb ideas

Dear prim buddies,
I'm just taking a break from my crafting and cleaning to post! Its so nice out today I think I may wow! heeee! Well anyways I wanted to chat about some lovely ideas for these great little things!

Idea #1. Silicone from wal-mart (mainstays) works great! But, have you ever dipped a Big bulb and it started smelling funny???? "Well I have!" So, I use this!!!! Automotive Silicone!!!!! Ta da!!!! It is made to withstand high heat!!!!

Idea #2. The color. Anyone getting tired with the plain color?
Try mixing OIL BASED PAINT with it! My favorites are brown and yellow mixed together!

Idea#3. Want your home to smell yummy? Add some oil to it!!!! The kind you use for your candle warmers or to freshen your pip berries!!!!
There are so many ideas out there but these are my favorites!!!!

Yesterday my sister in law Had a unexpected arrival of her twin girls almost 3 and a half months early!!!! They are doing fine and only weighing out at 1 and 1/2 pounds that's amazing!!!! Good day to all of you! Welcome back to olde spoon river homestead's blogspot! I have here a memorial background pic you can choose to use on your computers wall paper for tomorrow. I am using it as my wall paper!

Next, I have a craft for the kids! This is a rock and you can buy some paints and let the little ones make flag rocks for Memorial Day!

   Last, I have a kid-friendly recipe for Strawberries! Cute for Memorial Day and easy for the kids to help with!
   Ingredients needed are as follows
1. Fresh Strawberries
2. Cream cheese
   3. Sugar
4.Red and Blue candy sprinkles

Directions are as follows

Take cream cheeses and sugar and mix with a blender or by hand until soft and dipable! Can add a bit of milk! Dip and Sprinkle! Its pretty simple! Like chocolate dipped strawberries only with cream cheese!!!!

Welcome back to OLDE SPOON RIVER HOMESTEAD and a big hello to all my followers! Its a GOOD morning today! I must of woke up on the RIGHT side of my bed today! ha-ha-ha-ha! I'm going to give a brief tutorial of How to make your canning Jars that sought after dark color! SO PRIMTASTIC!!!!

INGREDIENTS NEEDED ARE AS FOLLOWS
1. Jars of any size or texture
2. Elmer's glue if you don't have any Modge Podge! Modge Podge can be found at any craft store and Wal-mart carries it also!
3.Homespun fabric
4.Spices including Cinnamon, all spice, cloves, anything dark and smelly good!
5. Paint brush or sponge
6.pan or long box with sides
7.Foil to cover pan
   DIRECTIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS
1. Take your Elmer's glue or modge podge and use your paint brush to apply a thin layer of glue to your jar! I have found that you do not want this to be globbed on because it causes it to run and look a mess!
2. Pour spices into your pan old box whatever you can find to roll spices onto your glue covered jar! Remember to cover your pan with foil because you don't want any glue on the pan or dish you cook with!
3. Take your glue coverd jar and start rolling it into your spices! Just until you get a ok coverage!
4. Let that set for 1 hour and repete the process in step 1 again! Then step 3 again and again let dry for 1 hour!
5. NOTE some will flake off thats okay just keep gradually appling the glue and spices slowly until you have reached your desired darkness or look!
6. You can then add homespun or tie cheesecloth around it and tie it with jute!!!!
                                                                I hope this tutorial helped with any questions!

HOW TO MAKE A Easy Dried Fruit Swag

Good day to all my wonderful Prim Friends! A BIG PRIM HUG!!!!!! Well since I have made these today I figured I would explain how to make these dandy liitle swags! You will need the following items!
1. 5 oranges
2. 5 apples
3. pinecones
4. Cinnimon sticks
5. Twine or string or raffia
6.Cinnimon,nutmeg,allspice
First you need to bake the apples and oranges! You can do this several ways! The best way would be to cut the slizes into 1/2 inch slises and dip them in a bath of asorbic acid and water mix.Dry the slices off and then sprinkle some spices on them and bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees! If you just bake them without the dip its okay to! You just have to sprinkle them with spices of your choice and bake them for even longer thats all. Like 200 degrees for 5-6 hours! You need to crack the oven door so that your oven acts as a dehidrater. JUST WATCH THEM AND USE YOUR JUGEMENT AS TO WHEN THERE DONE! THEY MAKE YOUR HOME SMELL JUST WONDERFUL! Finally when they are all done baking in the oven you can string them just like the picture or you can do what I did and put one apple then tied a piece of homespun then one orange then homespun and so one! Just mess with the final product and you''l have created a wonderful masterpiece for you mantle or where ever!

How to make Grubby popcorn looking candles?

Hello friends and welcome back to another day at the Oldespoonriverhomestead! I have been making different types of dipped,rolled and grungied candles for years and I have yet to come across a good popcorn looking candle, until yesterday! I have found that rolled in either sea salt or Epsom salt and rolled in candle wax makes these sweet little candles. I just love the texture!

How to make Colonial Sugar Cones

Making these is a pretty simple task but can be messy so prepare accordingly.
Ingredients needed are as follows
8 cups of flour
2 cups of salt
2 cups of WARM water

Combine all of your ingredients in a mixing bowl and knead the dough until it is pliable. (You can add some essential oil or fragrance oil of your choice)! This part is optional but I use Cinnamon because of its long lasting and strong smell! When you are done with that step you need to cover it with Saran wrap or a air tight container and store it in the refrigerator over night! The next morning you can use the container or bottle or whatever you want to use as a mold and use it. (NOTE) use some oil on the inside of your container so not to get your dough stuck to your mold. Finally, shake out of your mold carefully and let dry for around 3-4 hours. To finish off your project and to give it that colonial look that so many peeps love! Try wrapping tea stained cheesecloth around the finished sugar cone and tieing it with jute cording! Walla! You made a Colonial Sugar Cone!
